Fashion and the Mollusk

tentacleToday, I've decided to go with a stylish pajama pantsuit with a red and black tartan design, which I consider to be the height of men's fashion. On the upper torso, I have thrown caution to the wind with a navy blue sweater, sporting a random collection of decorative cat hairs. Completing the ensemble are a pair of bold white socks that enhance the shape of the ankle.

Tartan is here.

At present, I'm determined to develop a steadfast exercise routine because I want to be fit and active. The upside to fitness and leading an active lifestyle is that they are usually free, save for all the power bars I'm probably going to have to buy to help me on my way. For now, we'll start off with a healthy heaping bowl of generic-brand Cocoa Puffs.

I plan to go running today. The weather looks good for it. I can also break out the free weights for some upper body work. Maybe I'll do some push-ups, crunches, and squats as well. Or some curling. (see inset picture of a squid practicing its curls)

Squats are here.

Bounty of the Sea

beached2 Woke up on the beach this morning. The ocean is calm today, and not a cloud in sight. I wade out into the water, and carefully let my toes find the edge of the corral shelf. I fish for about an hour and catch something tasty. Looks like a good day ahead.

Lost at Sea

beachedSwam  today, in the great gulf. Felt the corral against my feet. All I see is sand and sun, endless yellow and blue, and I thirst.

Amazing Adventures, Issue #1!

salamanderToday I sit by the window and watch the rain churn the landscape into soggy mush. A week ago snow was falling. Lots of snow.

I'm amazed by the kindness of the people in my life. You are all so generous with your time, attention, and resources. It brings me joy, which I'm finding to be a wonderful, unstoppable force once it gets going.

Love each other.

Why We Fight!

fight!Sorry, I was going for a war propaganda theme today with the title and the drawing, but I quickly lost my train of thought.

I applied for two jobs yesterday. One was at a gardening store and the other was at a coffee shop. They're both right down the street from my house, which is great, because I want a job where I can walk to work.

I drank a cup of coffee and a Coke last night. After that I was wired for the rest of the evening. This enabled me to get a lot of work done in the studio, but I was up late. (don't ask when I went to bed)

Today is going to be great. You should call up an old friend or relative.

Tales from the Dreamboat

sailI have vivid dreams on a regular basis. While I don't put much stock in them, they are still part of my waking memory, and thus stuck in my head.

Since talking about the events of a dream in narrative fashion is akin to rambling, I will attempt to convey the contents of last night's dream by listing them as phrases.

  • Driving along a country road in an old truck
  • Rainy day that seems to leech all color out of the world
  • Giving someone a ride home, but they don't know where they live
  • Paying for someone else's meals as a kind gesture.
  • Reuniting a family in a convenience store
  • Piles of miniatures and game pieces in a freezer
  • A job well done
  • My car rolls away and falls off a cliff
  • Being consoled by strangers on the loss of a fine 2-door Mitsubishi Mirage

I don't think I was too upset about losing the car.

Game On!

bfgMy friend, Josh, came over Friday just as the snowstorm was hitting Columbus. He ended up staying for a few days since his car was buried under a foot of snow. We broke out some classic video games, watched movies, and even played a game of Battlefleet Gothic on my living room floor. It was a good weekend. I feel energized.

Battlefleet Gothic is here.

Snow Day

snowdayToday was a snow day. After much discussion, an expedition to the outside world was mounted. We ventured forth from our igloo into the winter wonderland that had engulfed much of  7th Avenue. The landscape had been erased by a powdery kind of snow that built up in great drifts by the blowing wind.

On the way to the grocery store, we met more people than I've ever seen outside in our neighborhood. I counted twelve other souls bundled up against the cold, digging their automobiles and sidewalks out of the snow.

It was a good day.

The Good Fight

hedonist02I'd like to discuss the progress of my new war on Hedonism. I'm not sure it is going very well for me. The battle plan was simple: wean myself off of the diversions that serve no function other than "pleasurable distractions." In concert with this tactic, I had planned on devoting more time to building a dedicated daily routine of dutiful living. (that's a lot of D-words)

In this I have failed. My inner Hedonist has hijacked the motivation centers of my brain. These pleasurable distractions are too alluring. The Spear of Consequences lies broken at my feet. I have lost the Gilded Helm of Charitable Living. Why am I so irresponsible? Why am I lazy? God, help me. I want to make beautiful things again.
